How can I locate a Mexican person abroad?

If you have difficulty locating a family member of Mexican nationality who is abroad, or you believe that you face a difficulty that prevents them from communicating with you (due to detention, illness or accident), Consulates can assist you in locating Mexican persons abroad.

It is important to try to locate the person with the address or phone numbers he or she provided when leaving. If it is not possible to locate the person, go to the Consular Office, Embassy of Mexico or office of the nearest Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and inform about the person's situation.

The Consulate can:

  1. Request information from the authorities of other countries.
  2. Review the records of services provided to Mexicans abroad.

The Consulate cannot:

  1. Provide information if the person does not wish to be located.
  2. Oblige the person to establish contact with his or her relatives.
  3. Carry out search actions against the legal provisions of the country where the person is to be located.

Requirements:

  1. Verify Mexican identity and nationality.
  2. Provide all available information that facilitates the search (photographs, birth certificate, features of the person, etc.).
